Some of our favorite chocolate candy can be made year round, as well as for holiday treats. Peanut Butter cups and Butter cremes are among the many of our favorite chocolate candy recipes that are inexpensive and easy to make.
The holidays are here, and the prices of staples, especially those to make the sweet goodies are going up as well. But, if you have checked the prices for candy and cakes, maybe the prices for the staples to do it yourself isn't so bad. Here are a couple of cheap holiday chocolate candy recipes that are quick and easy to make, and without needing a lot of ingredients.
They are a great project for kids, without the worry of using sharp utensils or having anything hot that may burn them.
Peanut Butter Cups
- Confectioners sugar if desired for sweetness
- Cream cheese
- Peanut Butter (creamy or nutty)
- Chocolate for dipping
- Paper candy cups (optional)
- A small jar of peanut butter will yield about 24 medium sized pieces
- Place peanut butter into a bowl
- Add a large spoonful of cream cheese per 16 ounces of peanut butter.
- Add a sprinkle of salt if so desired.
- Add a bit of confectioners sugar to taste if you prefer a bit of a sweet taste.
- Add flour slowly until you can roll or shape peanut butter without it being too sticky
- Dip in chocolate and place each cup in a dish lined with wax paper
Place/Keep peanut butter cups in refrigerator to chill and to stay firm
Tip: You can purchase jars of chocolate that is used for dipping candy, without having spend money on double boiler which makes chocolate candy recipes easier. Making holiday candy does not have to be a an expensive venture.
Chocolate Candy Recipe-Butter Cremes
Most of us are familiar with butter creams duing the Easter holidays. However, butter cremes, along with some variations will make a great Christmas candy. Butter cremes are one of the easiest cheap holiday chocolate candy recipes to follow and make.
Yields: About 60-65 small butter creams (1/2 size of golf ball)
•1 (1 lb) box of Confectioners sugar
•1 stick of butter
•1 Small serving spoon of cream cheese
•Wax paper or aluminum foil
•Crushed nuts of choice
1.Let the butter soften enough to mix with the confectioners sugar
2.With hands, mix the confectioners sugar and butter together
3.Add 1 small serving spoon, about 1/8 cup of creme cheese
4.Take a heaping teaspoon full of mixture, roll in balls and place in a pan or dish that is lined with wax paper or aluminum foil.
5.Place in refrigerator and chill. Take out as needed.
6.Layer the candy with a sheet of foil or waxed paper separating the layers
Variations: Here are some ideas for variations. Just use your imagination.
•You can add peanut butter, plain or crunchy, to taste to the mixture.
•You can also add crushed nuts to the mixture if you prefer.
•Roll in coconut if you wish
•Dip in chocolate and maybe use holiday colored sprinkles
